Winged Victory

‘Winged Victory’, a team of diversely experienced young sailors has enthusiastically come together with the sole purpose of winning the Red Bull YAC. Our team has extensive experience in high performance dinghies, collegiate sailing, skiffs, high performance multihulls, match racing, and professional boatbuilding and rigging.

While our entire team had successful junior sailing careers, winning and placing at Orange Bowl, Sears Cup, and US Youth Championships, what makes our team particularly strong is each member’s successful transition to “adult sailing”. Members of our team are sailing professionally in the Extreme 40 Series and have won Swan 42 North Americans and Melges 32 Nationals, while others have campaigned or are planning to campaign for the Olympics. Still others have focused on offshore sailing, competing in Bermuda races, Open 40 series and TP52 regattas.

Furthermore, as success on the water is impossible without the hours put in at the boat park, every team member has played an integral role in professional boat building and maintenance along his or her path to a successful sailing career. Two of our members have been regularly involved with Southern Spars rigging in Newport Rhode Island, and others have been involved in the redesign and refit of several high performance carbon and composite yachts.

Since a majority of our team has come up through the ranks of Sail Newport, our team has partnered with Sail Newport, who recently hosted the AC 45 regatta in Newport this past June. They will be the backbone of our challenge, providing fundraising, opportunities, training facilities and logistics. To bolster our diverse sailing background, we have the support and coaching of America’s Cup veterans and Olympians, including Kevin Burnham, Steve Benjamin, Ed Adams, and Scott Vogel who support our campaign and wholeheartedly believe in our ability to win the RBYAC. We all live to sail, and this exciting regatta enables us to showcase our abilities on these demanding catamarans.
